| At Hyderabad much appreciated Mohini Attam presented by Monisha Arts Nritya Vedi of Bangalore. |
At Hyderabad, a specially
choreographed and much appreciated Mohini Attam ensemble dance
titled' Gandhi Shantim, Shantim' was presented by Monisha Arts
Nritya Vedi of Bangalore, at Harihara Kala Bhavan. This was followed
by a rendering of three of Gandhiji's favourite hymns by A.P.Gibbs
Choir. The Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Sri S.S. Barnala was Chief
Guest.

'From Truth to Enlightenment'

At Ahmedabad, the presentations
at the Natarani theatre, were a specially choreographed dance
drama, in Kalari style, 'From Truth to Enlightment' by dancers
of Darpana Academy of Performing Arts and 'Gandhiji through our
eyes' by students of Mahatma Gandhi School. Mr A. M. Bharadwaj,
Director General of Mahatma Gandhi Labhour Institue, Ahmedabad
was the chief Guest.
At Chennai, the celebration was a 'Festival
of harmony in dance' by Kalakshetra's folk dance artistes. Rotary
Governor Mr Benjamin Cherian, was the chief guest.

"Ekam Sat", an impactful Bharatanatyam dance presentation,
At Bangalore.
|
The special feature of the celebration at Bangalore was "Ekam Sat", an impactful Bharatanatyam dance presentation, based on hymns of the Bhakti saints, specially
choreographed by dancer/choreographer Padmaja Suresh. This was followed by a scintillating Jazz presentation by the Amit Heri grup
and a rendering of Gandhiji's favourite hymns by the Frank Anthony School Band and Choir. Before
the concert commenced, the Chief Guest, Sri. T.N. Chaturvedi, Governor of Karnataka, distributed the prizes to winners of the essay contest on 'Non
Violence - A force More Powerful', which was conducted the previous month.

| On January 30th, 2004 a soulful concert of devotional music by Ms.Shubha Mudgal, titled 'Aman Ke Naam', was
organized by Maharastra Chapter at the National Center for the Performing Arts. At Hyderabad, the Andhra Chapter organized, in
collaboration with Bal Bhavan, a Childrens Poetry Recital of tributes to Gandhiji at the Indira Priyadarshini Hall. Over 350 children from the city and 34 districts of Andhra Pradesh participated. At Ahmedabad, the Gujarat Chapter, in collaboration with Ahmedabad Muncipal Council set up a 'Gandhivan' in which tree saplings were planted and rocks inscribed with Gandhi quotations were placed among the saplings. A week long 'Festival of Non Violence' was also commenced on that date by Darapna Academy of Performing Arts. |
During the period under review SIT financial assistance was given to:
a)Rs 10,000 to Mohalla Committee Movement Trust, Mumbai.
b)Rs10,000 to Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narainpur, Bastar Dt.
c)Rs10,000 to Mayurbhanj Leprosy Home, 23 Baripada, 757 001, Orissa.
d)Rs5,000 to Nirmala Shishu Bhavan, Goal Ghar, Post Box 560, Junglighat P.O., Port Blair 700 103, Andaman Islands.
e)Rs 5,000 to Inter Religious Harmony Group Bangalore.
Gandhian book sets were presented to the following institutions during this period:
a) Asian Management Institute, Manila.
b)Gandhi Ashrams at Denpassar and Candi Dasa in Bali, Indonesia.
c)Prasanta Academy, I.R.C village Bhubaneswar-15, Orissa, India. |

d)Chaturman Shikshan & Gramodyog Sangh,
Gandhinagar, Gujarat State.
e)St. philomena's High School at Mariappanapalaya, Bangalore Taluk.
SIT's T-shirts with impactful Gandhi quotations and artwork by India's
leading artists are steadily gaining in popularity. They are now regularly used by Indian Institute of Management and Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore as gifts for seminar participants and by the International Cultural Youth
Exchange (ICYE) for their Indian and foreign exchange students.
During this period Managing Trustee P. A. Nazareth participated in and chaired the session on 'Spirituality & Culture' at the 'Agenda for National Happiness Interdisciplinary Dialogue' at Chennai, August 4/5, 2005 and presented a paper on 'A Gandhian Perspective on Governance'. at
the 'Reforming Governance - Perspectives and Experiences' Seminar at Indian
Institute of Management, Bangalore, December 16/17, 2005.
